This month Year Six were involved in an exciting project in conjunction with Saffron Hall. A new opera was written and children from Year Six classes around Saffron Walden were invited to take part. It was called, ‘The Glass Knight’ and is a new youth opera, which was especially commissioned by Saffron Hall for local schools.

STORY

The Glass Knight tells the local story of the Saffron Walden basilisk - a fearsome beast, which laid waste to medieval Saffron Walden.  The Townsfolk despaired until a mysterious Knight appeared and set forth to slay the beast.  Slay it the knight did, but the townsfolk were amazed to see a female knight, clad not in metal armour, but in a glass suit.  Seeing its reflection in the glass armour, the basilisk was turned to stone.
