Childhood Illness
It can be difficult when deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell.
There are government guidelines for schools about managing specific infectious diseases at GOV.UK. These say when children should be kept off school and when they shouldn't.
If your child is absent from school due to illness we ask that parents/carers follow these procedures:
- Contact the school on the first day of absence before 8:45am. The school has an answer phone available to leave a message if nobody is available to take your call, or you may call into school personally and speak to the office staff. Alternatively email the school office on info@st-maryscofe.essex.sch.uk
- Contact the school on every further day of absence, again before 8:45am.
- Ensure that your child returns to school as soon as possible and you provide any medical evidence, if requested, to support the absence
If your child is well enough to go to school but has an infection that could be passed on, such as a cold sore or head lice, let their teacher know.
